AUTUM IN NEW YORK BY POLLY GUERIN

The trees are singing a song

 Then autumn leaves came along

Leaves dressed in crimson red

Brushed with gilt beams instead

The glorious golden autumn days

Treasure them before they phase

Nature's grand finale is closing in

Savor the moments and begin

For too soon it is winter's tale

Comes round so swift with the pale.

Goodbye August 2021

Don't let these few days of summer go

Those sweet memories I know

Let's recapture her brilliant sunshine

 Spontaneity so fine

Carefree days and longer  mellifluous nights

Time to enjoy the longer halcyon nights

Sitting on a blanket listening to a park concert

The birds sing along and the fountain sings a song

Canoeing like pilgrim explorers on a mirror lake

Laughing like children we we gave up our reserve

The magic of summer frolic we did serve

Our energy bursting we are once again young and gay

We antiqued and read books by the light of the day

By night the stars came out like diamonds

So I ask you "Why must summer end? Why?

EMBRACE By Polly Guerin

To be embraced is a loving touch

It says I love you very much

It's closeness restores our heart

Do it now before the day starts

A child's embrace is like a prayer

It sends miles of love and tender care

The embrace of life is now so rare

But it's greeting says you care

Repeat your intent to regain love

And ask the angels to send you love from above.

COVID 19 Remembered

Covid 19 seems to fizzle out

We need booster shots on the spot

It's one time phase is phasing out

Will the pandemic vaccine ever end?

No my dear, those who do not vaccine

Cause unwanted concern

When will we all ever learn

Vaccinations are very spotty

Some folks refuse to take it

With lack of complete cooperation

Our lives are at risk throughout the nation.

Beach Books by Polly Guerin

My books, my books in a cozy nest

Quietly they take their rest

Friends they are without demand

My need to escape they understand

To foreign lands I travel wide

Words go along for the ride

I read on to journey's end

Each book is my friend

I delve deep into the story line

Events encountered are divine

Entertained I turn each page

Journeys lead me in every stage

Enthused I finally put it down

Reflect upon it without a sound

Writ by an author, it got in print

Enthralled readers, made a mint.

HUNGER FOR LIFE: By Polly Guerin

Hunger is often thought as nutrition
But it has far reaching conviction

When you hunger with a strong desire
Strength of character is required

The fulfillment of fondest dreams
Has honest hunger without schemes

Hunger can drive you towards a goal
How hungry are you to be foretold

Practice hunger daily to confirm
That your life passion is learned

Put daily hunger on your agenda
Hunger for a life well led, surrender.

CHILDLIKE WONDER II By Polly Guerin

It's time to tap into childlike wonder
Let, go release yourself from ponder

Allow yourself to go out and play
Avow to do it now or any day

Approach every new day with joy
Curious like a young girl or boy

Playing lets you laugh and smile
In a child like world for a little while

Share the magic, invite others to play
Be light hearted, cherish each day

Commit to a play date, don't delay
Make this your coming out party today.

SENSE OF WONDER By Polly Guerin

The wee hummingbird came
Early morning waw his game

Fairy wings fluttering aloft
Flower to Flower he sought

I watched with a sense of wonder
The wonderous creature's plunder

Enraptured by the lilliputian's skill
Astonished I admired the thrill

Of nature's intricate dance
Could be missed in a glance

A showman so delicate, so rare
I looked for him eadh morning fair

What joy he brought each day
Toss concerns away in play

So I ventured into the world today
And spread my wings with play.

ADIEU TO JUNE 2021 By Polly Guerin

June splashed into summer
Rainstorms were a bummer

Thunderbolts shocked June
She entered with wet gloom

We zoomed here and there
Then sunlight came so rare

Father's day paid homage to men
And Pride Month was on the mend

Justice echoed through the nation
Juneteenth for emancipation

They marched nationwide to protest
New York put through the outcry test

The solstice summer did shout out loud
We wore summer shorts in the crowd

The dawning of a brand new day
Made us wish June's troubles away

For everything good comes in July
With a sunshine golden glow reply.

OPTIMISTIC: By Polly Guerin

Now that the pandemic is winding down
It's time to discard that downcast frown

A cheerful attitude goes a long way
To put a little magic into every day

Decide to give your attitude a boost
Release restraints and now cut loose

Dance to the positive rhythm of life
You've come a long way from strife

Life gives new opportunity for growth
Recall your fondest dreams and note

Like the changing seasons you recreate
Now is the time to begin, it's never too late

To evolve into a higher version of yourself
With an optimistic outlook recharge and grow.

ADIEU TO MAY 2021 By Polly Guerin

I can but only tell you this
Cheerful May did not exist

The cold blast kept us stuck
Warmer weather was not our luck

Memorial day honored heroes all
Heroes in the vaccine war I recall

All Mothers had a respectful salute
With Jewish Heritage Month on route

Mental Health Month made it very clear
That many a person suffered with fear

Yet Cherry Blossoms debuted one day
With hope that spring was truly on its way

Sweet May briefly came with joy to love us
With flowers and blue skies above us

Cheer up summer is waiting at the gate'
Be glad even if it's slow to come at any rate.

HIT THE DELETE BUTTON By Polly Guerin

Delete, Delete, Delete

Wrong thinking curbs success
The past is past, no regrets

Spoken words manifesting negativity
Become a reality, stifle positivity

Keep you from your best potential
Stay convinced with credential

Turn off the negative recording
Reprogram your mind, warning

Don't give negativity the time of the day
Delete thoughts that get in the way

Move forward on a high pitch
You'll conquer every glitch

Welcome the gift, the ultimate bliss
Engage life fully and don't resist.

SPRING AWAKENING: By Polly Guerin

The trees awaken and struggle to give birth
And the sparrow's song tweets the silent earth

Like ballerinas the trees bend and sway
Yearning towards the sun's warming rays

The forest symphony sings from its roots
Snaps, crackles, crushing twigs underfoot

King bluebirds take up the best in the court
Claim their territory where  others sought

Yet, hither and yon there's room for them all
The creatures of spring are enthralled

But bring new life, they arise from sleep
Fledglings emerge and being to peep

And the world rejuvenated thus renewed
Refreshing vistas and new found views

On nature's green velvet carpet we sit
Spring Awakening is our profound gift

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY: By Polly Guerin

A mother's love is the inner source
Her devotion is on a steady course

Though heartbreak comes, and it will
Her steadfast faith is strong, and still

The gentle touch of a mother's hand
Reassures patients, lets us understand

Taking pride in even the minutest detail
Her praise ignites inspiration, never fails

Children are the pearls in her value purse
Childhood memories center in her universe

Of Children's laughter in those halcyon days
Memories she cherishes in the scrapbook page

These fleeting moments may surely pass
But a mother's love will forever last.

ADIEU To APRIL 2021: By Polly Guerin

April gave us ambivalent weather
We expected warmer days together

The chilly weeks were unlike sweet April
Rain and sunshine vied for the weather cable

Yet flower beds rose up with rainbow streams
Deep in their roots the tulips began to beam

Tartan Week brought out high spirited Scots
And voom marching bands began to shout

Earth Day on April 22 gave cause to renew
Our respect for nature's bounty on review

Enthusiasts watched the Academy Awards
And National Poetry Month was not ignored

Shakespeare's birthday evoked fine sonnets
And the earth came forth with April bonnets

Flowers blossomed with rainbow charm
And people responded with gentle calm

Patient and hopeful for the renewal of Spring
We received our reward and the birds did sing

As the days renewed a brighter, lighter glow
May brings love to everyone, this we know.

NATURE'S CHORUS OF PRAISE: By Polly Guerin

As the the morning awakens each day
Bursting forth in joyous floral array

As twilight ushers in birdsong chatter
Night brings insect songs to scatter

Nature unites in brilliant orchestration
Song of the Spheres from nation to nation

Leaves dance to the baton of the breeze
Rainbow flowers yearn to please

Nature changes her seasonal dress
With colors to dazzle and impress

The sounds of nature heal and cure
Step into the garden, unlock the door

Like a prayer music of the spheres
Brings comfort and love to our ears

WONDER WORDS By Polly Guerin

The power of words can be soft as a prayer
To show you are concerned, that you care

/Wonder words sound like a baby's smile
Innocent and protected for a little while

Words well chosen are like nuggets of gold
Enriching, restoring as the story is told

The right words can change a person's life
Or cut them down to size with an edit knife

Good /conversation is becoming so rare
With pointless obsession we cannot bare

The manipulative power of words change
The monotony of everyday to rearrange

Our life's adventure in the spoken word
Encourage and support, let it be heard

Wonder Words lead us out of o static world
Keep talking talking with love unfurled.

EXPECTATION: By Polly Guerin

It's time to look ahead with expectation
Rev up your positivity and do not ration

Dream big, fulfill your fondest dreams
Put your best foot forward, yet it seems

We may not know what the future holds
Be brave, dream onward to your new role

The pandemic is streaming out of place
You're heading forward happier to embrace

Your best efforts in the work you will prove
Share your talents, play it forward never lose

Your spark ignites wonderful possibilities
You're confidant, ready to restart civilities

Maintain a joyful expectation, and for a while
Try to be kinder and put on your best smile

Take positive expectations into your daily life
A grateful heart, a glad greeter would be so nice.

A Poem for Today: VALOR By Polly Guerin

Valor is an honorable award
It takes courage you can afford

To solider on to the very end
Encourage, your dearest friend

Maintain a steady forward cause
The days grow shorter because

Vaccinations streaming everywhere
We're fortified solid with urgent care

Feeling safer does not mean release
Keep up with protocols in place please

Even small gestures count as valor
Help a neighbor, become a scholar''

Stand up to injustice, sign a pledge
Valor takes you over the placid edge

To a leadership role on a small scale
Valor in your heart will never fail

To contribute to love and  peace
May you find Valor a joy to release.

ADIEU TO MARCH 2021: By Polly Guerin

March came in with a snowy blast
But Soring was stepping up at last

As solemn as the month may seem
A one year anniversary from Covid-19

We're in a brighter, lighter, happier mood
With wind in the grass whisperings soothe

Unwelcome flooding a sudden rainstorm
Gave birth to myriad flowers on the lawn

A time of renewal with open air dining
With protocols in place and reminding

Be cautious and patient while unwinding
We have come so far in this race providing

March 19 officially announced Spring
Even the city sparrows began to sing

People felt giddy with abandon relief
With daylight savings time hour release

Welcome new season of health and renewal
April steps in with blue skies ever truer.
