Ode to the Pumpkin (c) By Polly Guerin

ODE TO THE PUMPKIN ©

Traugers Farm, Bucks County
The pumpkin has a toothless smile
Yet he is revered from mile to mile

There’s pumpkin this and pumpkin that
The seasons bursting but nothing flat

Crunchy pumpkin granola comes first
Pumpkin café au lait quenches thirst

Pumpkin pancakes drizzle with jam
It’s pumpkin season, that’s the plan

Everything’s pumpkin, even bagels
And pumpkin cream cheese staples

Then there’s pumpkin in your soup
And pumpkin bread to dip and scoop

Or crunchy, crispy pumpkin croutons
Make salads delich and spicy, too

Take tea with pumpkin rolls or muffins
Spice up turkeys with pumpkin stuffin

Pumpkin pie is the season’s supreme
Why not top with pumpkin ice cream

Pumpkin waffles make a fancy dessert
Top them with pumpkin Greek yogurt

The French have pumpkin croissants
Then slather on rich pumpkin butter

Pumpkin spice icing sizzles on the cake
Eat pumpkin spiced seeds for goodness sake

The pumpkin season only lasts few more days
Really, I’m in a frenzy with this pumpkin phase.

AUTUMN IN NEW YORK 2014 (c) By Polly guerin

Autumn in New York 2014 ©
By Polly Guerin

The trees are singing a song
Then autumn leaves came along

A cacophony of painterly art
Before the winter had its start

Everything bursts with color
Admire the view like no other

Leaves dressed in crimson red
Brushed with gilt beams instead

A rich amber translucent glow
A blaze, it nearly stole the show

Then underneath the last dance
The squirrels seemed in a trance

Burying nuts beneath the earth
Marking their place to search

The glorious golden autumn days
Treasure them, before they phase

Nature’s grand finale is closing in
Savor the moments and begin

For too soon it’s a winter’s tale
Comes round so swift with the pale.

AWAKENING in the ADIRONDACKS (c) By Polly Guerin

The morning mist hovers 'or the lake

And across the silent, gloomy stillness

A lone canoe freed from its anchor

Plies the waters seeking its dock

Suddenly the plaintive cries of a loon

Invades this remote rustic wilderness

The distant shore is bleak and at peace

While the dense forest's cedars shudder

And the sun beats down its heat

Awakening the morning

On a sultry day in summer.

SWEET SUMMER BREEZE...A Magical Romance By Polly Guerin

It was a soft mellifluous night
The Luscious breeze was light

As air, an caressed with a kiss
A warm embrace, such bliss

It wafted freely like a bird
En plein air it was heard

A magical presence at her side
"A lovely evening," it did imbibe

She stole a glance to her right
A shadow of a man did alight

His voice mild like the dulcet breeze
He pursued her further, if you please

And strolled along in a soft tone
She was aware she was not alone

But cautious feigned not to hear
The strange encounter not clear

The stars were shinning above
It was a night made for love

Yet, she in a dreamy state
Knew not was her fate

Then, someone called her
Through the brightening air

Such a pretty young thing
With tingling bells did sing

And for a moment's reverie
She fell in love, don't you see

It was a starry silvery night
Held in his arms so light

A gentle lover he was there
Caressing with dulcet care

And they in such embrace, Swept away in the Sweet Summer Breeze of Summer.

MY ELUSIVE CELLPHONE (c) By Polly Guerin

I seek it here I seek it there
I assure you I give care

Yet, that elusive cell phone
Has a mind of its very own

I meant to put it in plain view
But alas it disappeared anew

I wonder where it went?
Under the piles I have spent

Looking here, looking there
Perhaps it’s under a chair

Believe me this isn’t really fair
I’ve reached the point of despair

I pay my bills each time on time
Why does my cell phone decline?

To make a visible appearance
It took off without clearance

Somewhere it hides each day
In a nook or it’s stashed away

There’s no other recourse I admit
With this annoyance I am in a fit

So I surrender to my land phone
And dial that elusive cell phone

Alas I hear a muffled message tone
Talking to me but I’m quite alone

Till I look under the papers on my desk
Need I say more, put the subject at rest.

“It is a Delight!!!

SENSE OF WONDER (c) By Polly Guerin

The wee humming bird came
Early morning was his game

Fairy wings twittering aloft
Flower to Flower he sought

And took breakfast en plein air
T’was his bounty, only fair

I watched with a sense of wonder
The mysterious creature’s plunder

Do not let the splendor slip away
Silently watch for his returning stay

Captivated by the Lilliputian’s skill
Astonished, I admired the thrill

Of nature’s intricate dance
Could be missed in a glance

So glued to the windowpane I spy
The minuscule bird bye ‘n bye

A showman so delicate so rare
I looked for him each morning fair

His determination was a constant show
I did not want to disturb, let him know

What joy he brought to begin each day
Tossing concerns away with a sense of play

I ventured out into the uncharted course
Spread my wings like the bird’s force

And what I care for what others say
Thus inspired I now rule the day

A happy diversion so granted
And the world is less frantic.

IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND (A Reverie) (c) By Polly Guerin

It never entered my mind

That it would come to this

I did not have every wish

It never entered my mind

That in life always be kind

Troubles, tears I might find

It never entered my mind

I just did it with a kiss

Was it something I missed?

It never entered my mind

That anyone would go away

They were all here, every day

It never entered my mind

An empty place at the table

I tried to forget, wasn’t able

It never entered my mind

And gladness faded away

What more can I say?

It never entered my mind

It takes courage to forget

So engaged otherwise, yet

It never entered my mind

That life might end this way

What care I what they say

It never entered my mind

My freedom gives me cause

To reflect on it all and pause

It never entered my mind

That it would end this way

Alas, tomorrow is another day!
